Therapeutic Massage
In my practice, the foundation of Swedish massage provides a variety of
techniques to help increase circulation, reduce muscle tension, relax
the nervous system, and alleviate pain while helping me identify
particular areas of concern that can benefit from more specific
techniques.
The use of touch therapy has been recorded in nearly every culture on
every continent, dating back to as early as 2000 BC. The most modern
research hails from the University of Miami School of Medicine Touch
Research Institute and has identified benefits of massage including:
- Decrease in anxiety, depression, and stress hormones
- Enhanced immune function
- Increased alertness and better performance on cognitive tasks

What you can expect
Your first appointment will be about 20 minutes longer to
accommodate a review of your health history. Knowledge of past as well
as current health conditions such as accidents, injuries, surgeries,
and medications, as well as information about frequent activities
allows me to develop an approach that will best meet your individual
needs. You can expect to be informed about the different techniques,
how they work, and why they might be indicated. As we work together, I
may be able to suggest some specific yoga postures that might be
beneficial. Clients always have the option of scheduling a private yoga
session, for which I can generate a customized sequence of postures
that can be practiced at home. Availability of appointments is
dependent on availability of the studio, so please attempt to schedule
appointments at least one week in advance whenever possible. |
